Homerow

A touch-typing tutor that runs in the browser.

Homerow teaches touch typing from the home row up: five courses, drills that make you fix every mistake before moving on, and illustrated hands on an on-screen keyboard showing which finger presses which key. It watches which keys give you trouble and builds review drills from them. Nothing is installed and nothing is sent anywhere — your progress stays in your own browser.

What it does

  • 01

    Five courses

Touch Typing in twelve lessons, then Speed Building, Numbers, Special Marks and the Number Pad. Each lesson introduces its new keys one at a time before the drill starts.

  • 02

Hands that show you the finger

Illustrated hands rest on the on-screen keyboard with fingertips on the home row. The finger you should use is tinted and marked, and the other hand's little finger is ringed when you need Shift.

  • 03

    Mistakes must be fixed

In key, word and sentence drills you cannot move past an error. Paragraph and text drills type freely, and a skipped word realigns the text instead of breaking everything after it.

  • 04

Review built from your own errors

Every key is rated OK, Difficult or Problem from your errors, corrections and hesitation, measured against your own rhythm rather than a fixed threshold. Review drills then target those keys.

  • 05

    Typing tests with certificates

Ten built-in passages or your own pasted text, from one to ten minutes, with a printable certificate at the end.

  • 06

    Games and statistics

Bubbles, Word Rain and ABC Sprint for practice that does not feel like practice, plus a speed and accuracy chart, a key-difficulty heatmap and your course history.

  • 07

    Six keyboard layouts

US, UK, Dvorak, Colemak, AZERTY and QWERTZ. Speed can be shown as words per minute or keystrokes per minute, and the day or night theme follows your system if you want.
